SOIL CONSERVATION Soil Conservation is the process by which the loss of soil is checked, reducing the velocity of run-off through erosion control measures for maximum sustained crop production and for protection of human lift. So conservation of soil is essential for sustenance of human life on the earth.
The theme for this year’s essay is the same as for the poster contest, “Life in the Soil: Dig Deeper.” The essay must have between 500-1,000 words and be typed, or hand written in ink on one.
The Essay contest is for 7th-12th grade students only. The contest starts at the district level; winners advance to the area level then to the state level, and then to the national level, where they receive recognition at NACD’s annual meeting.
The first place winner of the local Soil and Water Conservation District Contest is eligible to compete in the MACD Area Essay Contest and the first place winner of each of the MACD Area Essay Contests is eligible to compete in the MACD State Essay Contest.

Photography Contest - The Conservation District sponsors a photography contest for students in the 9 -12 grades. Students may enter in any of the four categories: Trees and Plants, Native Wildlife, Landscapes, or Rural Life. The winning photos for 2019.
